Our Top 5 Dog Walks in Warwickshire
Stratford Parks is ideally located near Stratford-upon-Avon, in Warwickshire, and the utterly gorgeous Cotswolds, an area of outstanding beauty which lures visitors from across the globe each year. It’s the ideal place to holiday with your four-legged friend as there are plenty of dog walks in Warwickshire for you to discover. Whether it’s trails along the River Avon, following historic railway lines or climbing up for some of the best views in the area, here are our top picks;
1. Welcombe Hills
For tranquillity and escapism, head to Welcombe Hills and Clopton Park nature reserve, cared for by the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust. There are miles of grassland and woodland to explore with plenty of pretty walks to tire your pooch out. There are ancient trees, wildflower meadows, plentiful birdsong and, in spring, numerous Brimstone butterflies. With 60 hectares to roam, the reserve is open all year round although there are grazing animals present from April to October and there may be occasional requests to keep dogs on leads. For more information on this dog walk in Warwickshire, including a map of the area and link to an audio trail, please visit the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust website.
2. Stratford Greenway
A surfaced bridleway spanning 5.3 miles between Long Marston and Milcote, Stratford Greenway is perfect for dog walks. Running along a disused railway line, it follows the route of the old Honeybourne Line passing the racecourse at Stratford-upon-Avon before crossing over the River Avon and River Stour. Stop for a picnic and drink at Milcote where you will find a refurbished railway carriage café. Perfectly placed at the halfway mark, it’s a good spot to rest tired paws! Continuing on, the last section runs through beautiful countryside before finishing in the village of Long Marston where you can enjoy a well-earned drink in the Mason’s Arms, which naturally, welcomes dogs. 3. Stratford and Tiddington Circular
This fabulous 10.6km circular trail is accessible directly from Stratford-upon-Avon so hop on our river taxi and set off exploring this dog walk in Warwickshire! Open all year round, the trail is mostly flat with some parts following the road where dogs will need to be on leads however there is plenty of countryside to see where they can run freely and sniff to their hearts content. During the spring and summer it can feel a little overgrown so long trousers are advised. For more information about the walk, including a preview video, please visit the alltrails.com website.
4. Broadway and the Tower
The second highest point in the Cotswolds, Broadway Tower is a wonderful place to walk proffering fabulous views and numerous trails. One of our favourites is the 4-mile Broadway and the Tower walk which takes in the picture-perfect high street in Broadway before navigating through historic tracks up to the impressive Broadway Tower. The views here are truly breath-taking and on a clear day it is possible to see the River Severn and across into Wales. We advise allowing around three hours to walk this trail which is rated as a moderate walk with some steep sections. There are several car parks available as well as public transport from Stratford-upon-Avon. With plentiful places to eat and drink, historic sites and rolling green countryside to roam, it’s a great day out for you and your four-legged friend.
